Metal Component Heat Treating Services
Specialized heat treatments can improve certain physical and chemical properties in metal components. At Hudson Technologies, we perform basic types of heat treating services for deep-drawn metal parts:
- Vacuum Annealing
- Humpback Annealing
- Retort Heat Treating
- Aluminum Heat Treating
Our heat and annealing services use a range of temperatures to alter worked metal components. Heat treatments maintain the shape of metal components and preserve the integrity of the metal. Annealing processes can adjust chemical properties in various metals to improve their workability and increase ductility.
Our facility houses several retort and heat-treating furnaces, which can handle a wide range of metal alloys for various industrial applications. While designing and manufacturing your stamped metal parts, our experts will work with you to determine which heat treating services are best for your needs.
Vacuum Annealing
Vacuum annealing heats the metal parts to a predetermined temperature for a specific length of time, then quenches them with cold temperatures to cool them. The cold-forming operations used at Hudson Technologies for metal stamping can harden or over-harden metal parts. Our annealing methods soften the parts so they can continue the forming process. Annealing also strengthens the metal by refining the grain and reducing the risk of cracking or deformation.
Humpback Annealing
Humpback furnaces are named for their shape, with an inclined entrance point and a downward-sloping outlet. This design is excellent for smaller components and parts. During humpback annealing, the metal components are continuously moved through the furnace on a metal mesh belt. Humpback annealing is a relatively fast process, with a standard start-to-finish time of one hour. Hudson Technologies can adjust the speed and temperature of our humpback furnace to meet your specific requirements.
Retort Heat Treating
Retort heat furnaces are airtight furnaces for heating materials at high temperatures. These vertical furnaces feature a hot chamber and a cool chamber. The metal parts to be heated are loaded into a vessel, which can be quickly lifted and transported between the two chambers. Retort heat treating can be precisely controlled and allows for highly efficient heat treating services.
Aluminum Heat Treating
Aluminum heat treatment is excellent for increasing the strength and durability of aluminum metal parts. During this process, metal components are heated and cooled to controlled temperatures. Aluminum heat treating can restore ductility after cold-forming processes, increase formability, and improve machinability for additional stamping operations. Our trained specialists can help determine the right temperatures and length of treatment to provide the best results for you.
