What is Deep Draw Stamping?

Deep draw stamping is a metal pressing process used to create custom metal components. This highly precise stamping process produces extremely accurate three-dimensional metal parts of detailed or complex designs.

Deep draw stamping is among the quickest methods for high-volume metal component manufacturing and production. Because the process is repeatable, components can be completed in one seamless piece, eliminating the risk of imperfections or the need for additional assemblies.

Forming Deep Drawn Metal Parts

The deep draw stamping process requires a press, a die, and the metal to be shaped. The metal sheet or metal blank is secured to a die, and the press is activated, triggering a punch against the die with up to 400 tons of force. This process forces the metal into the die cavity, molding it to the established specifications. Deep draw stamping can be repeated until the component achieves the desired size and shape.

This metal stamping method is performed at room temperature and is known as a cold-forming or cold-working process. Cold-forming allows for greater accuracy, tighter tolerances, and cleaner finishes for deep drawn metal parts.

Deep Drawn Metals & Materials

When determining the best materials for your specifications, our experts consider various key factors such as tensile strength, ductility, weldability, and machinability. We have experience working with numerous metals and materials, including:

  • Aluminum
  • Stainless Steel
  • Copper
  • Brass
  • Nickel
  • Titanium

Additional deep drawn metals include cold-rolled steel, nickel silver, cupronickel, and HY-MU 80. Specialty metals include Monel®, Hastelloy®, Kovar®, and Inconel®. These nickel alloys offer numerous benefits for deep drawn metal parts, including corrosion resistance, high temperature tolerances, and increased strength.
