Shallow Drawing vs Deep Draw Stamping

Shallow-drawn parts create parts where the depth of the draw is less than the smallest dimension of the opening or less than half of the part's diameter. In deep draw stamping, the manufactured component features a depth significantly greater than its diameter.

Both processes use punches, dies, and force to stretch and form the sheet metal, but shallow drawing requires less force overall and does not create significant depths. Deep draw stamping often uses punches of up to 400 tons of force to mold metal into the die cavity. These two manufacturing methods are among the most popular metal-forming processes for custom metal components.
